Site and email privacy

Privacy notice

This note explains how limited information is handled when you read efetanyer.com or subscribe to new-publication emails.

Approximate readership metrics

The site creates a random identifier only in the open tab to count approximate page views, readers and live presence. It is not saved in a cookie or browser storage and resets when the page is fully reloaded. Only a one-way hash and timestamps reach the readership database. Names, email addresses, raw IP addresses and raw user-agent strings are not stored there. Reloads and multiple devices can therefore count one person more than once.

Content-level analytics

For Daily Market Capsules and Market Guides published from 4 August 2026, the site records aggregate content engagement: page sessions, 30 seconds of visible reading, 75 percent reading progress, links followed to another publication, and writing-card impressions and clicks. A random page-session identifier stays only in page memory and resets on a full reload or canonical route change. The database keeps its one-way hashed session and deduplication state for eight days and daily aggregate rows for 400 days. It does not store a raw event stream, persistent person identifier, article text, name, email address, raw IP address, raw user-agent string, full referrer, search query or precise location. These figures describe approximate content sessions, not unique people or cross-day return visits.

Performance and reliability telemetry

The site records daily aggregate ratings for Core Web Vitals and bounded technical-error categories so real speed and failures can be monitored. The stored dimensions are the metric or error category, good/needs-improvement/poor rating where applicable, broad page type, language and navigation type. Exact performance values, error messages, stack traces, full URLs, query strings, names, email addresses, raw IP addresses, raw user-agent strings and persistent identifiers are not stored. These aggregate rows expire after 90 days.

Hosting and security

Cloudflare Sites serves the website and may process normal technical request data or set strictly necessary security cookies such as __cf_bm. The readership and telemetry endpoints use request metadata briefly to reject cross-origin traffic, filter known automation and limit abuse; they do not add that metadata to the application databases.

Email subscription

The signup form asks only for your email address. Buttondown records your subscription and confirmation status and may process timestamps, IP address, referrer and delivery events. To prevent accidental rapid repeat submissions and return you to the matching confirmation language, the site stores only a 10-second submission timestamp and the selected EN/TR language in the current tab's session storage. Neither value contains your email address; the timestamp is removed when the cooldown ends and both values disappear when the tab closes. Optional email-open, link-click and automatic UTM tracking are disabled. Newsletter information is kept separate from the site's public readership counters.

Why it is used

This limited information is used to show approximate readership, understand which publication formats support useful reading and onward discovery, measure real site speed, detect technical failures, keep the site reliable, confirm your request, send newly published Daily Market Capsules and Market Guides, manage delivery and prevent abuse.

Consent and control

To subscribe, select the consent checkbox, which is unticked by default, and open the confirmation link sent by email. You can unsubscribe from any newsletter email. You can also write to efetanyer@gmail.com to ask about, correct or delete your subscription information.

Service providers

Cloudflare provides hosting, security and the readership database. Buttondown LLC provides subscription and email delivery services. These providers may process information outside your country under their own privacy and data-transfer safeguards.

Retention

Short-lived active-reader data is used only for the live 90-second window. Content-analytics session and deduplication state expires after eight days; its non-person-level daily aggregates expire after 400 days. Performance and reliability aggregates expire after 90 days. Aggregate readership totals remain part of the publication record. Subscription information is kept while you remain subscribed; limited suppression, consent or delivery records may remain when needed to respect an unsubscribe request, prevent abuse or meet legal obligations.
